Ethiopia becomes wheat exporter in 2023

Ethiopia became a wheat exporter this year, starting to grow it in sufficient volume for exports, the Planning and Development Minister of Ethiopia Fitsum Assefa said at the plenary session of the 5th UN Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDC5), Report informs.

“In Ethiopia, we began a complex structural reform program 4 years ago after we recently concluded a two -year internal conflict with the support of the African Union ... Within the framework of our green heritage initiative, we managed to plant more than 25 billion seedlings in just 4 years. Thanks to the cluster method of growing wheat using irrigation this year, we managed to use excess wheat for export,” she said.

According to the reports of the UN food and agricultural organization (FAO), Ethiopia is in last place in wheat exports along with Egypt, and earlier, the exports were not predicted until 2027.
