China to invest $600 million in Kazakhstan's livestock hub

Chinese company Beijing Capital Agro has announced plans to invest over $600 million in the country's meat livestock industry.

According to Report, which cites APK Novosti, this ambitious project, slated for completion by 2030, aims to create a sprawling livestock hub that will integrate more than 600 existing farms and feedlots across Kazakhstan.

The announcement came during a pivotal meeting between Kazakhstan's Minister of Agriculture and representatives from Chinese companies CITIC Construction and Beijing Capital Agro. Both firms expressed keen interest in forging long-term partnerships with Kazakhstan, particularly in the acquisition of beef and live cattle.

Earlier this year, Chinese authorities lifted restrictions on meat exports from southeastern regions of Kazakhstan, paving the way for increased trade. June 2024 saw the first shipment of Kazakh beef exported to China, signaling the beginning of what could become a lucrative trade relationship.
