Azerbaijani honey ranked 3rd at the 47th Congress of the International Federation of Beekeeping Associations (APIMONDIA) held in Istanbul, Turkiye, from August 24 to 28, 2022, Report informs via the Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry.
Twenty-two members of the Azerbaijani Beekeeping Association and the Union of Professional Beekeepers represented Azerbaijan at the event. In addition to beekeepers, 161 participants from 44 countries, including experts, entrepreneurs, technicians, and officials, attended the congress. At the congress, discussions were held on the development of beekeeping, an exhibition of beekeeping products was held, and a competition for products was organized.
At the exhibition, Azerbaijani beekeepers demonstrated their products in the national pavilion. Visitors were given extensive information about the Bozdag Caucasian bee, which is the gene fund of Azerbaijan, and the state support for the development of beekeeping. In the pavilion, visitors could taste the Azerbaijani honey.
Under the strategy of APIMONDIA, the countries participating in the congress partook in the competition by submitting their products. In the competition, the scores were given by a jury of 42 people selected from 7 countries. Honey's naturalness, quality, moisture, origin, presence of antibiotics, and other residues were checked, and appearance, taste, smell, and aroma were evaluated.
The Kinyatogullari company, which won 5 medals, including 1st and 2nd place in the honey competition at the VII Azerbaijan Beekeeping Conference, ranked 3rd and was awarded a bronze medal.
