Azerbaijan ready to cooperate with FAO in creation of 'smart villages'

Azerbaijan is ready to cooperate with the UN food and agricultural organization(FAO) in transformation of the villages through their digitalization into "smart villages," Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov said at the International Food Safety Conference in Samarkand.

Report informs citing the ministry that Mammadov said the digitalization of agriculture, as well as the introduction of advanced technologies and advanced experience, are important for creating stable agricultural food systems. The minister emphasized the importance of transforming agro-food systems to ensure food security in the world.

Stressing the special importance the government of Azerbaijan attaches to digitalization in agriculture, Mammadov noted that after the liberation of the Azerbaijani lands from occupation, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev declared the Karabakh region the green energy zone: "At present, large-scale restoration and reconstruction work is successfully carried out in the liberated territories to ensure their further development and the creation of the necessary infrastructure."

The minister noted that agriculture in these territories will develop in accordance with the Smart Village Concept, which includes the best technologies and practices. Azerbaijan is ready for close cooperation in this direction, since this goal corresponds to the FAO plan to turn villages in different countries into "Smart villages" through digitalization.
