Association chair: Export of Azerbaijani pomegranates to European, Gulf countries should be increased

Increasing the export of Azerbaijani pomegranates to European and Persian Gulf countries, along with traditional markets, is one of the main objectives, Farhad Garashov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Pomegranate Producers and Exporters Association Public Union, told Report.

"For this purpose, we regularly hold meetings to increase trade agreements and direct interest from foreign buyers. However, high transportation costs during export, especially the increasing waves of war observed in the region recently, create serious difficulties for exporters," Garashov emphasized.

According to Garashov, participating in major international exhibitions, creating special pavilions, and continuous work by trade houses in this regard are important factors in creating brand value for Azerbaijani pomegranates and promoting them in the world market: "We can also achieve this through advertising campaigns in export markets and increasing the production of competitively quality products."

The association chairman said that in January-November 2024, Azerbaijan's pomegranate exports reached 29,359.6 tons, increasing by 16.2% compared to the same period last year: "Looking at previous years, we have exported to a total of 15 countries. Note that our farmers haven't yet completed the harvesting process in some orchards. These figures may change for 2025 depending on weather conditions and total orchard areas."
