AFSA: Turkiye assisted Azerbaijan in adapting food safety system to international standards

Azerbaijan enjoys Turkiye's support in adapting the country's food safety system to international standards, Elkhan Mikayilov, chief of staff of the Food Safety Agency (AFSA), said at the regional seminar organized in Baku within the framework of the joint activities of the representatives of FAO in Azerbaijan and Turkiye.

He noted that the AFSA closely cooperates with Turkiye in the implementation of projects:

"Generally, AFSA representatives visit the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry every month. Specialists also come to us from there."

According to him, some structural reforms have been implemented in the field of food safety in Azerbaijan:

"Since its inception, the Food Safety Agency has closely cooperated with various UN organizations, including FAO. In particular, we have teamed with FAO in preparing the State Program for ensuring food safety for 2019-2025 years, including reforms in the food security field. FAO supported us in studying world experience in this field. During this period, there were successful projects of FAO in the field of food safety and animal health."
