The coronavirus pandemic has made its own adjustments and has significantly impacted the agro-industrial sector, the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Maximo Torero Cullen, said at the international conference on digitalization of agriculture in Baku.

The main goal is to provide the world with the necessary products, he said, adding that today many people in the world are still starving. The current situation in the world has aggravated the situation with cereals, but efforts are made to find a solution, the FAO representative said.

According to him, the use of modern digital technologies can help develop the agricultural sector, in particular, provide farmers with the necessary information:

Cullen said that digital technologies have also proved effective during the pandemic; however, teamwork is essential to achieve these goals.

The FAO representative also emphasized Azerbaijan's actions in this area.

In turn, the director of the Center for Agrarian Science and Innovation Akbar Abbasov spoke about the creation in Azerbaijan of the DigitalAgro agricultural platform, which is designed to become the basis for controlling agricultural information: "If you have the right system, you can get information with one click. So thanks to this platform, you can get all the information about this or that plot of land, the crops that can be planted there, and much more."

In general, he spoke about all the advantages of this platform, noting that it allowed to significantly improve the monitoring of the agricultural sector in the country.
