Türkiye to set up safe zone in Northern Iraq –Defense Ministry

By creating a safe zone on the border of Iraq, Türkiye aims to prevent the threat from afar, and contribute to the development of the region's prosperity with transport and energy projects, sources in the National Defense Ministry said, Report informs, citing Turkish media sources.

According to information, a weekly briefing was held after the last meetings of the military and political leadership of Türkiye with the Iraqi authorities.

The sources answered questions about whether the Joint Operations Center will be created after the recent meetings with the Iraqi authorities.

“Negotiations with Iraq continue at certain levels. Preparations for the Strategic Framework Document, which is planned to be signed between the two countries, are ongoing. One of the issues we want to include in this document is the establishment of a Joint Operations Center. Technical details related to the operation of this center will also be determined after the signing of the document,” the ministry official said.
