Awards of punished wrestlers will not be given to Azerbaijani sportsmen

Baku. 27 October. REPORT.AZ/ Disqualification of Uzbek and Kazakh sportsmen Soslan and Taymuraz Tigiyev after re-analysis of their samples from Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games resulted in positive test will not seriously influence ranking position of Azerbaijani wrestlers.

Report informs, the reason is both sportsmen didn’t face Azerbaijani wrestlers in Olympic tournament.

Jamsulvara Jamsulvarayev was representing Azerbaijan in 74kg category where Soslan Tigiyev won silver medal. Jamsulvarayev reportedly killed in Iraq as member of Islamic State terrorist group lost his first match in Beijing 2008. Murat Gaydarov (Belarus), who knocked him out of tournament, lost to S.Tidiyev in semifinal. Silver medal taken from Uzbek wrestler will supposedly be presented to Gaydarov. Second bronze medal will go to Stefan Gheorghita (Romania) defeated by Belarussian, alongside Kiril Terziyev (Bulgaria).

96 kg freestyler Taymuraz Tidiyev competed in the same category with Khetag Gaysumov from Azerbaijan. The bronze winner of the tournament Gaysumov lost in semifinal to another finalist Shirvani Muradov (Russia) who won the gold medal after defeating Tidiyev in final match. That’s why silver medal will be presented to Georgi Gogshelidze (Georgia). Gogshelidze’s bronze medal will go to Michel Batista (Cuba) who lost to him in bronze medal match.

Notably, according to decision of International Olympic Committee (IOC), World Wrestling Union will decide on new owners of stripped Olympic medals.
