Baku.1 April. REPORT.AZ/ President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has received chairman of the Russian Cinematographers Union, film director Nikita Mikhalkov.

Nikita Mikhalkov said he was pleased to visit Azerbaijan. Noting that he witnessed unprecedented development in Baku, the film director recalled with pleasure that an episode in one of his films was shot in the Azerbaijani capital. Touching upon big development processes in the country, Nikita Mikhalkov praised national leader Heydar Aliyev`s role in establishing and strengthening statehood after Azerbaijan restored its independence.

The head of state said Azerbaijani-Russian ties were developing in various fields, including in humanitarian area. President Ilham Aliyev said the visit of chairman of the Russian Cinematographers Union, film director Nikita Mikhalkov will contribute to the development of cultural ties between Azerbaijan and Russia. The head of state said culture, including cinematography enjoyed state support in Azerbaijan, adding continuous work is being carried out to promote Azerbaijani culture worldwide.

The parties exchanged views over prospects for cooperation between the two countries in culture, including cinematography.

Nikita Mikhalkov handed over a keepsake to President Ilham Aliyev.
