Elmar Mammadyarov: Destructive and provocative policy of Armenia causes significant damage to stability in the region

Baku. 23 September. REPORT.AZ/ Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has met with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini within the framework of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly.

Report informs referring to the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan.

As stated in the ministry, the meeting discussed the current state of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union and prospects for development, also interest in further development of mutual cooperation has been expressed.

The sides expressed readiness to begin negotiations in the near future to continue the partnership between Azerbaijan and the EU in a new plane, also referred to potential for the development of relations in spheres of energy, transport and agriculture.

Referring to negotiations to settle the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, E. Mammadyarov stressed that continuation of occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia and destructive and provocative policies promoted by the aggressive country cause significant damage to the political solution of the conflict in the region and restoration of peace and stability. He added that Azerbaijan is a supporter of substantive negotiations on the conflict settlement.

In turn, F. Mogherini expressed support of the EU on territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Azerbaijan and noted an interest of the union in a peaceful settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.
