Kylian Mbappe may not feature for France at Paris 2024

Kylian Mbappe looks set to have one of his summer dreams killed off amid probably completing a dream move to Real Madrid according to L'Equipe, which cited anonymous sources, Report informs.

Mbappe has told his current club Paris Saint-Germain that he will not renew his contract with them when it expires on June 30, as reported by The Athletic last month.

Mbappe has never hid the fact that representing his country in the athletics spectacle would be a dream for him, though in an interview at the turn of the year, he appeared resigned to accepting his club standing in the way of him featuring at two major competitions in the same summer.

"I have reached a point in my life and career where I no longer want to force things," Mbappe told GQ.

"If they let me do them, I would go with great pleasure. But if it is not possible, I would understand. For any athlete, the Olympics have a special place and I already wanted to go to Tokyo because I want to win everything and write my name in the history of the French team as that of a player who mattered," he added.

"Whatever Mbappe's desire for the Olympic experience, the possibility of seeing him compete in the Olympics with France is diminishing day by day. Hopes would be quite slim," says the French magazine, as part of a front-page headline spread.

From Madrid's perspective, Mbappe playing both tournaments will rule him out of heading on a preseason tour of the United States where he could be shown off as the club's new marquee signing while also playing his first installment of El Clasico against its bitter rivals FC Barcelona.

Furthermore, just contesting the Euros also reduces the possibility of Mbappe arriving at the Bernabeu worn out ahead of a fresh campaign, or perhaps even picking up an injury.
